Soar to Success Institute
Description
Soar to Success Institute provides a two-day, in-depth training for educators using Soar to Success. Participants will be actively involved in experiencing the research-based and classroom-tested instructional strategies in Soar to Success. Each registrant will participate in small-group discussions, a lecture, role-playing, practice teaching, and coaching.
Objectives
Participants will learn how to:
- Know the Soar to Success instructional models—grades K–2 and 3–8.
- Be able to teach reading intervention lessons for grades K–2 and 3–8.
- Be able to explicitly teach and model phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency lessons.
- Be able to model comprehension strategies for students at the K–2 levels.
- Understand and be able to use reciprocal teaching at the 3–8 levels.
- Know how to use graphic organizers in grades 3–8 to help students improve comprehension.
- Understand and be able to use oral reading checks (ORCs), Retellings, and Benchmark Assessments in grades K–8.
- Have a beginning plan for organizing and managing Soar to Success in a variety of school settings.
Upon successful completion of this training, participants are eligible to teach Soar to Success to students, to coach other teachers, and to coordinate the intervention activities within their school or district. (Participants are not eligible to train others by replicating the two-day Institute.)
Each participant is asked to bring a Soar to Success teacher's manual (any grade level) to the institute.
