PRE-K Institute
Description
This hands-on PRE-K program focuses on the instructional techniques necessary to meet children's key learning goals as defined by the Early Reading First initiative. The institute also encourages teachers to explore connections to math, science, and social studies, and to understand the value of assessments. Participants engage in small-group discussions, role-playing, simulations, and teaching practice using Houghton Mifflin PRE-K materials.
Objectives
Participants will learn how to achieve the following:
- successfully implement Houghton Mifflin PRE-K
- support and enhance an existing Pre-K curriculum with Houghton Mifflin PRE-K
- help children build phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, oral language and vocabulary skills, print awareness, and number sense
- understand the program's comprehensive curriculum, which includes social and emotional development, science, social studies, math, and art
- adapt instruction through formal and informal assessment
