Rice Cereal Blocks
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons margarine or butter
- 1 bag marshmallows
- 6 cups of rice cereal
- nonstick cooking spray
Directions
- Melt the margarine in a large saucepan over low heat.
- Add marshmallows. Stir until melted.
- Remove from heat. Add cereal. Stir well.
- Coat a 9" x 13" pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place mixture in the pan.
- Cool. Cut into small blocks. Have children stack the blocks on a plate.
Stacks of Pancakes
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup blueberries, optional
- syrup
Directions
- Crack the egg into a bowl; beat.
- Stir in the milk and melted butter.
- Mix dry ingredients together. Stir in mixed egg, milk, and butter.
- Heat extra butter in a pan.
- Drop 1/2 cup of batter into pan. Sprinkle with blueberries, if desired.
- Flip the pancake and finish cooking.
- Create a tall pancake stack. Have each child use a spatula to place a pancake on the stack, balancing pancakes so the stack doesn't fall.
- Serve with syrup. Makes about 12.
Build a House
Ingredients
- white bread, square
- wheat bread, square
- sliced cheese and meat
- raisins
- assorted vegetables, finely chopped
- tub butter or margarine
- Options: cream cheese; thinly sliced carrot sticks or green beans for shutters
Directions
- Give each child a small plate.
- Use one slice of bread as the house. Cut another slice of bread in half diagonally. Use one of the triangles as the roof.
- Cut window, door, and chimney shapes out of cheese or sliced meat. Attach cutouts with soft butter or margarine.
- Use a raisin as a doorknob. Decorate with raisins and chopped vegetables dipped in butter or margarine.
