Party Buffet

Ingredients

Juice:
  • watermelon, sliced
  • sealable bags
  • straws
Other supplies:
  • assorted fresh fruits and vegetables
  • small crackers, pretzels
  • ranch-style dressing
  • yogurt

Directions

  1. Serve these dips in muffin tins so children can handle them easily.
  2. Peel vegetables and fruit. Have children cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Children will place the vegetables, fruit and crackers/pretzels in the muffin tins. Leave two sections in each tin to hold the dips.
  4. Have children spoon the yogurt and salad dressing into muffin tin sections.
  5. Juice: Remove watermelon rind. Have children remove seeds and place watermelon in individual sealable plastic bags. Seal bags. Children can squeeze the melon into juice.
  6. Open each bag just enough to insert a straw. Seal as tightly as possible.

Alphabet Soup

Ingredients

  • 9 cups water
  • 3 bouillon cubes
  • 1 bottle (32–46 oz.) tomato juice, low salt
  • 1–2 cups chopped vegetables, fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup uncooked alphabet pasta
  • Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. Combine 3 cups water, bouillon, and tomato juice in a pot; heat until boiling.
  2. Add the vegetables, alphabet pasta, and the last 6 cups of water. Reduce heat to a simmer.
  3. Simmer 20 minutes, or until pasta is cooked.
  4. Salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, if desired.

Number Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 (16-oz.) loaves frozen bread dough (or your own recipe)
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • chocolate chips or other small candy
  • sugar for sprinkling
  • cinnamon sugar

Directions

  1. Divide the dough into pieces and distribute to children. Flour surfaces lightly.
  2. Each child can roll the dough into a rope shape, and then shape a number.
  3. Place numbers on greased cookie sheets.
  4. Children will place the corresponding amount of chocolate chips on his or her number (4 = 4 chocolate chips), pushing chips down slightly into dough.
  5. Beat together egg and water. Brush mixture on top of their numbers.
  6. Children can sprinkle sugar or cinnamon sugar on top of their numbers.
  7. Bake at 350° until golden brown.
