Predicting Sums
This two-player game gives children practice in adding two 2-digit numbers. Players each predict a sum. Whoever gets closest to the actual sum scores a point.
What You Need:
- Deck of cards (face cards removed)
- Pencil and paper for each player
What You and Your Child Will Do:
- Deal out all the cards face down. Have each player make a pile of the cards.
- Each player secretly writes a number that he or she predicts will be the sum of two 2-digit numbers.
- Each player now turns over the top two cards on his or her pile and decides how to arrange them to form a 2-digit number.
- Players work together to add their two 2-digit numbers.
- It's time to share the sums! Players now reveal the sums they predicted. Whoever predicted the sum that is closest to the actual sum gets 1 point.
- After several more rounds, the player with a total of 10 points wins the game.
