Domino Addition

How many different ways can three numbers be added to get a sum of 12? Your child can use dominoes to find out!

What You Need:

• Domino Addition Worksheet (PDF file)
• Domino cutouts at the bottom of the worksheet
• These dominoes from a set: 0–1, 0–2, 0–3, 0–4, 0–5, 0–6, 1–6 (optional)

What You and Your Child Will Do:

1. With the dominoes on the table, ask your child to identify the total number of dots on each. (The numbers of dots represent totals of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.)
2. Look at the worksheet together and explain that these dominoes must be put on the criss-cross outline so that the total along the black line in each direction—across, down, and diagonally—is 12.
