From Seed to Plant

Work with a family member and observe how seeds grow.

Materials

Procedure

  1. Soak the seeds for 24 hours.
  2. Fold a paper towel in half and place it against the sides of the container. Ask an adult to help you put 1 inch of water in the container. Put a crumpled piece of paper in the container to keep the paper towel against the sides.
  3. Put three seeds between the paper towel and the side of the container. Put the container in a place with light.
  4. Check the paper towel each day to be sure it is damp. When the seed sprouts, draw what you see for the next three days. Write or draw your observations in the chart.

Results

Talk with your family member about what you drew. What happened first to the seed as it began to grow?
