Animal Shelters

Where does a bird live? Where does a fish hide? Where does a spider sleep? Animals need shelters. They make shelters in nests, under rocks, in webs, or under leaves. With a family member, make a model of a spider's shelter.

Materials

• scissors
• pipe cleaners
• craft sticks
• glue
• tape
• yarn or string

Procedure

Think of a spider web as a series of circles. A spider web might have ten circles around the tiny center one, each circle bigger than the one that came before it. There is space between all the circles, but they are attached. You can put pipe cleaners together to make different-sized circles. You can also glue craft sticks into circle shapes. Yarn or string can be stretched between craft sticks to form circles.
