Press Plant Parts
Have you ever seen a perfect flower in a bouquet? Did you wish that you could save it? You learned about flowers and other plant parts. In this activity, you will learn a way to save beautiful flowers.
- flowers from a variety of plants
- paper towels
- 3 or 4 heavy books
Ask an adult family member to help you cut some flowers from a variety of plants. Cut the flowers when they are dry. Try to choose flowers that have no black parts and few holes. Also, try to choose flowers that are thin. Place a paper towel on a flat surface. Arrange a few flowers on the towel. Place another paper towel on top of the flowers. Put the board on top of this towel. Put books on top of the board. Put a “don't disturb” sign in front of the books. Wait two weeks. Carefully take the board, books, and paper towel off the flowers.
What has happened to the flowers? How could you use the flowers? How are they the same? How are they different from the way they looked two weeks ago?
