Are You in the Food Chain?
Our science class has been learning about food chains and how living things get the energy they need to stay alive. In this activity, you and your family members can learn more about food chains by observing living things at the park or in a backyard.
- park or area with wildlife
Look in a local park or backyard to find wildlife. Walk around the area with your family member. Write the names of some producers in the chart. Remember: plants are producers. Next, write down the names of any consumers you see. Be sure to identify the consumers as herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores.
What did you notice about the number of producers you saw, compared to the number of consumers? Why do you think there is a difference between the numbers of producers and consumers?
