Mix and Separate

In your science class, you have been learning about matter. In this activity you can learn more about the difference between solids and liquids and how they mix together and separate.

A bowl full of elbow noodles and buttons.

Ask an adult to help you mix together the liquids (water and food coloring) in one cup. Watch as the color mixes in with the water. In the second cup, mix together the solids (noodles and buttons or coins). Watch as the solids are mixed together. Draw on a piece of paper what both mixtures look like. Now try to separate the solids.

What happened with the liquids? with the solids? Both can be mixed together, but which one can be separated easily? What other solids and liquids can you try mixing together?
