Animal Artifacts

Is a lion a mammal? Is a snake a reptile? How do you know? Animal groups include mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Ask a family member to help you make a model of one animal from each of these five groups.

• fabric (felt, fur, vinyl)
• yarn
• sequins
• buttons

Procedure

Decide which animal models you are going to make. Then make a model of each animal. Use different materials for different parts of each animal.

Results

How would you describe a mammal? How is it different from a bird? How would you describe a fish? How is it different from a reptile? How would you describe an amphibian?
