Promoting Safety First

In class you have been learning about electricity and circuits. You have learned that electricity can be very dangerous. In this activity, you and your family members will learn some of the safety precautions you should take when using electrical devices in your home.

A stereo cabinet against a wall, wires along the wall are in flames.

Ask an adult to help you make a poster that can be used to teach others how to be safe around electricity. Give examples that include household electrical devices, as well as devices in the community. Give tips on how to be safe around appliances, and what to do if there is a problem with electricity.

What other items can you think of around your community or school that could be used as examples? Did you find examples in and around your home where electricity might be dangerous? What would be a good way to make those dangerous examples safer? Where do you think would be a good place to display your poster on electricity safety?
