Justifying Answers: When Students Ask

  • Why should I learn this?
    It takes a while to solve a problem, and you want to make sure the answer is correct. It will help you later when you have to solve more difficult problems.
  • How can I justify my answers when I add?
    After you have made sure that you have all the information and have solved the problem by adding, you can use manipulatives, you can draw a picture, or you can add the numbers in a different order to check your results.
