This site provides details about the earliest uses of mathematical symbols. The information was collected by Jeff Miller, a Florida high school teacher.
Babylonian and Egyptian Mathematics
This site provides information about Egyptian and Babylonian mathematics, specifically the Rhind papyrus. Learn about the Egyptian method for multiplication and for using fractions, as detailed in the papyrus. This is part of the large and detailed MacTutor History of Mathematics Archive, located at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
This site provides lots of information about all sorts of math games and puzzles, including pictures of some solutions. Students can repeat the puzzles and learn more about the history of mathematics and famous mathematicians. See a picture of the entire Rhind papyrus, and read about other math puzzles that many mathematicians are still trying to solve.
