Grade 4, Chapter 3 Investigation Organizer:

Grow Your Vegetables

Summary: Your group will plan a vegetable garden. You will decide which vegetables to plant. You will gather information about planting zones and use the information to plan your growing season.

1. Plan It

A. Find your planting zone. Look at the Planting Zones Map here on Education Place, or on page 117 of your textbook. Find the zone where you live.

B. Choose your vegetables. Use the planting charts to help you plan when to plant vegetables. You can use the sample chart on page 117 of your textbook, or the charts and links provided below:

2. Put It Together

A. Plan your growing space. Your group's garden will have 5 to 7 rows of plants in a space 10 feet wide and 10 feet long.

B. Design your garden. Use grid paper to draw your garden design.

A. Explain your plan. Make a class report telling which vegetables you are growing each month.

B. Take a poll.
