Keeping Tennessee Clean and Green

Many kids in Tennessee help keep Earth clean. West Carroll Elementary School students do a great job!

First, students learned why it is good to protect Earth's natural resources. Next, students learned what plants and animals need. They read that clean air and water keep living things healthy. Then the students acted.

The Students Do All They Can

They wanted to make less trash at their school because they knew that less trash keeps air and water clean. The students picked up empty drink cans.

They took the cans to a special factory. The factory cleaned the cans and melted them down. Factory workers made new cans from the melted ones. Recycling cans saves resources ad energy.

A Message to Others

The students wanted to teach others about keeping Earth clean and saving energy. They wrote lists of ways to save energy. They gave these lists to people in their town to read.

But that's not all. The students made a poster. The poster asks people to keep Tennessee highways clean. The poster says, “Tennessee Does Not Treasure Trash.” Copies of the poster are now up all over the state.

Good Citizens

The governor of Tennessee gave the students an award for their poster. The award made everyone in the school feel happy.

The students are good citizens. They help keep their school, town, state, and Earth clean.
