Many children are healthy today because of the work of Dr. Jonas Salk. He went to school in New York to learn about medicine. Later, Salk worked with other scientists to make a flu vaccine (VAHK seen). A vaccine is medicine that keeps people from getting sick. Many children go to a doctor to receive vaccines.
Salk also made a polio vaccine. Polio is a sickness that makes it hard for people to move their arms and legs. Today, people around the world have vaccines to help them stay healthy.
Why do you think many people would want to thank Dr. Salk today?
