When Dolores Huerta was a child, her mother taught her to care for other people. Huerta became a teacher, but she wanted to do more to help others.
Huerta met a man named Cesar Chavez. He came from a family of farm workers. He cared about how farm workers were treated at work. Huerta and Chavez started a group in California called the National Farm Workers Association. This group makes sure that farm workers are treated fairly at work. It helps workers get better pay. Dolores Huerta is a strong leader because she helps make the lives of farm workers better.
