Lance Armstrong 1971–
Champion Cyclist

Lance Armstrong is the most famous bicycle racer in the world today. In 2005, he did what no one had ever done. He won the Tour de France for the seventh year in a row. The Tour de France is a bicycle race in France. It is more than 2,000 miles long. It takes weeks to finish.

Armstrong has faced an even greater challenge, though. When he was 25 years old, he found out he had cancer. Cancer is a disease. Even though Armstrong was very sick, he did not give up hope. His motto was to live strong. After he got well, he started riding again. Very few people thought he could win one Tour de France, much less seven in a row. Today, Armstrong raises money for cancer research and helps other people living with cancer to “live strong.”
