Franklin Delano Roosevelt 1882–1945
Popular President of the United States

Franklin Delano Roosevelt became the 32nd President of the United States in 1933. The country had some difficult problems at that time. There were not enough jobs. It was hard for people to earn money to buy food and shelter for their families. Many people lost their farms and homes because they could not pay for them anymore.

President Roosevelt worked to help Americans have better lives. He started government programs that gave jobs to people who needed them. If someone did not have enough money to feed their family, the government gave them some money to buy food. Farmers could also get government money to help them keep their farms.

Americans trusted President Roosevelt because he helped them through hard times. Americans chose Roosevelt to be president three more times. He served longer than any other president. Roosevelt stayed in office from 1933 to 1945. People today remember Roosevelt as a strong and caring leader.
