Casimir Pulaski 1748-1779
Polish Patriot Who Fought for America

Casimir Pulaski was born in Poland, a country in Europe. He grew up to be a soldier.

Pulaski heard that Americans were fighting a war to be free of England. He came to America to help in the fight. George Washington was glad to have his help. Pulaski was a brave soldier. He was a leader in battle. Pulaski was shot and died in a battle at Savannah, Georgia.

Today, Pulaski's birthday is a holiday in Illinois. It is one way Americans remember and thank Casimir Pulaski for coming here long ago and fighting to free America.
