Winter Sports Survey

question

bar graph

Forty-eight boys and girls in New England were surveyed on their participation in two winter sports. The survey asked the following questions.

  • Have you ever snowboarded?
  • Have you ever skied?
  • Have you both snowboarded and skied?
  • Have you neither snowboarded nor skied?
The graph above shows the results of the survey, but it does not label each pair of bars. Here are statements on the results of the survey.
  • Three times as many boys as girls have both snowboarded and skied.
  • The number of girls who have skied is the same as the number of girls who have neither skied nor snowboarded.
  • The number of boys who have only skied plus the number of boys who have only snowboarded equals the number of boys who have done neither sport.
  • Twice as many boys have only skied as have only snowboarded.
  • How many boys have only snowboarded, have only skied, have snowboarded and skied, or have done neither sport?
  • How many girls have only snowboarded, have only skied, have snowboarded and skied, or have done neither sport?
