A Total Eclipse of the Sun
Sometimes the Sun disappears in the middle of the day, even when there are no clouds in the sky! During a total eclipse of the Sun, the dark, round Moon moves between Earth and the Sun.
For a few minutes, the Sun is hidden and Earth turns dark. Only the Sun's bright corona can be seen.
Remember to never look directly at the Sun, even if you have cool sunglasses like mine!
- A lighted ring around the Sun or the Moon.
- The blocking of light of one thing by another.
- In Lesson 2, you learned how the Earth moves around the Sun. Why does an eclipse happen?
- Draw a picture that shows where the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth are during an eclipse. Label the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth in your drawing.
