Portrait of Sheila White Samton

Sheila White Samton is an author as well as an illustrator. She has designed wall hangings and painted large murals, too. She enjoys painting because it lets her show character and feelings. Working on Jamaica Louise James was an interesting challenge for Sheila White Samton. She had to show readers both Jamaica in her own world and the world Jamaica chose to paint.

  • When she was eight, Sheila White Samton's best friend moved away. She would chase away her lonely feelings by drawing or writing.
  • Sheila White Samton learned to use New York's subway system when she was young. She took the subway to meet friends at the city's art museums.
