Portrait of Susan L. Roth

Writing and illustrating children's books are Susan L. Roth's favorite things to do. When she was a child, art supplies were always on hand at her house. Her parents wanted their children to be creative. They proudly displayed the children's artwork in their home.

Susan L. Roth studied art, art history, and writing in college. Then she went on to study printmaking. For a while, she was a schoolteacher. She has even taught at the Smithsonian Institution, a museum in Washington, D.C., where you can see all kinds of things.

Much of Susan L. Roth's work is done in collage, bits of cut paper glued together to make pictures. She also enjoys working with woodcuts.
