Meet the Illustrator

Jane Manning lives in the small town of Deep River, Connecticut, a few miles from where the Connecticut River flows out to the ocean. You may have enjoyed two other books Manning illustrated. One is My First Songs, a collection of favorite children's songs. The other is This Little Piggy, a book that is shaped like a foot!

• For her book Cindy Ellen: A Wild Western Cinderella, Manning thought about a horse she used to ride named Killarny. She used those memories in her illustrations.
• Does a wild western Cinderella wear glass slippers? No way! Manning gives Cindy Ellen diamond spurs for her boots instead.
