Juanita Havill

Portrait of Juanita Havill

Juanita Havill was born in the state of Indiana. When she was four or five years old, she would make up her own poems and recite them to her mother, who wrote them down. Her writing turned to children's books much later, after her own children were born.

Some of Havill's most popular books are about a young girl named Jamaica. The idea for Jamaica came to Havill while watching a little girl playing in the park. She remembers thinking, "There's something about that girl that I want to put in a story." There are now several books in the Jamaica series.

  • Havill lives in Arizona with her family. She teaches writing to adults in the city of Phoenix.
  • Havill enjoys going to the movies, listening to music, swimming, and reading children's books.
