Grade 5: Personal Narrative

How can you put your voice into your narrative?

Use words that you are comfortable with. Big words aren't always best.
Too stiff: I sought Sal's assistance.
Much better: I asked Sal to help me.
Use details that let your personality shine through.
Not enough: I was happy that I won the contest.
Much better: “And the winner is Katherine Rose.” I know this sounds pretty conceited, but for weeks after winning the contest, I kept hearing the judge's words. Wow! There's no music that could sound sweeter to me than those words.
