Give your readers a hint of what might happen in the story!

In your first paragraph or two, introduce at least one main character, the setting, and the problem.

Parrotland was a small island in the middle of a huge ocean. It was covered with forests, streams, and many small villages. In one village there lived a young boy named Kyle. He was only nine years old, but he was already a skillful woodworker. He was famous in Parrotland for making amazing wooden toys for the children and excellent wooden tools, dishes, and buckets for the grownups.

One day, Kyle was sitting under a tree carving a fancy wooden spoon. Suddenly, a green, red, and blue parrot landed at his feet. The parrot began to speak. “A huge wave is coming!” the parrot said. “It is taller than the clouds are high. It can wash away every village on this island. It will hit us in three days!”
