Grade 4: Opinion Essay
Is each paragraph about just one main point?
- Decide what the main point of your paragraph is, and state that idea in a topic sentence. Don't include anything in the paragraph that doesn't support the main idea.
- Another thing I don't like about going to museums is that you have to stick with the group. [That's the topic sentence.] After I've looked at something enough, I want to go see something else instead of waiting around for everyone. For example, at the Museum of Nature, we spent forever at the weather station. Meanwhile, I really wanted to see the ocean waves exhibit, but then we had to leave. The best exhibit we saw was the volcano. [That sentence didn't support the main idea.]
