Grade 4: Personal Narrative
Try one of these ideas to give your beginning more spark.
- Ask a question. It will make your audience curious.
What would you do if your best friend needed to find homes for his cat's five kittens?
- Make a surprising statement. Your audience will want to find out more.
Sometimes the best gift can be something you didn't want at all.
- Use dialogue. A person's exact words help bring the story to life.
- Without dialogue: My brother was yelling words of encouragement to me.
- With dialogue: “You can do it! You can do it!” I heard my brother yelling.
