Grade 3: Personal Narrative

Check out these ways to make your story clear and easy to follow.

Tell the events in the order they happened. Read your draft slowly. Did you put a later event before an earlier one? If you did, just move it!
Keep to your topic. Take out any parts that aren't important to your story.

If we were late, we would ruin the surprise party! I looked at my watch. It was really my sister's watch, but she let me wear it. “We have to be there in four minutes!” I shouted.

Use time clues. They help your readers understand when events happen.

We crawled into our sleeping bags. Soon we were sound asleep. Later that night, a noise woke me up. At first I was scared, but then I decided it was just the wind. The next morning, I discovered what the noise really was.
