Grade 3: Personal Narrative
Check out these ways to make your story clear and easy to follow.
- Tell the events in the order they happened. Read your draft slowly. Did you put a later event before an earlier one? If you did, just move it!
- Keep to your topic. Take out any parts that aren't important to your story.
If we were late, we would ruin the surprise party! I looked at my watch. It was really my sister's watch, but she let me wear it. “We have to be there in four minutes!” I shouted.
- Use time clues. They help your readers understand when events happen.
We crawled into our sleeping bags. Soon we were sound asleep. Later that night, a noise woke me up. At first I was scared, but then I decided it was just the wind. The next morning, I discovered what the noise really was.
