Grade 2: Personal Narrative

Do you need some help organizing your story?

Write the events in the order in which they happened. To check, close your eyes and pretend you are watching a movie of what happened. Does the order of events in your story match the order in your movie?
Write only about events that are important to the main part of your story. Take out sentences that do not belong in your story.

I began looking all over for my hamster. First I looked under all the furniture in the living room. Then I noticed that the hall closet door was open, so I looked inside. There was a pile of boots on the floor, and I started pushing the boots out of the way. I found a mitten I had lost last winter. [That sentence was not important to the story.] Soon I found Goldie. She was inside a boot!
