Grade 8: Personal Narrative

Here are tips to set up an effective flashback.

Begin your narrative at an exciting point in the middle. Then flash back to the beginning.
Use transitional words and phrases to help the reader follow you.

Emilia gripped the canoe paddle. She pushed against the rock as hard as she could while I paddled furiously. Soon we felt the canoe slide off the rock and back into the stream. What a relief! Getting stuck in the middle of a rushing river was scary.

Earlier that day, our canoe trip had started perfectly.
