Grade 8: Personal Narrative
Here are tips to set up an effective flashback.
- Begin your narrative at an exciting point in the middle. Then flash back to the beginning.
- Use transitional words and phrases to help the reader follow you.
Emilia gripped the canoe paddle. She pushed against the rock as hard as she could while I paddled furiously. Soon we felt the canoe slide off the rock and back into the stream. What a relief! Getting stuck in the middle of a rushing river was scary.
Earlier that day, our canoe trip had started perfectly.
