- Vague reason: This will help our city.
- Specific reason: This will prevent traffic jams downtown.
- Give related reasons. Don't stray off the topic.
- Goal: to get more people to use public transportation
- Unrelated reason: I like to travel downtown.
- Related reason: Using fewer cars will cut down on air pollution.
- Don't give exaggerated reasons. Your audience might think you're bluffing.
- Goal: to get more people to use public transportation
- Strong reason: You can relax on the train or bus.
- Exaggerated reason: You'll avoid ten car accidents a day by riding the train.
- Give reasons suited to your audience.
- Goal: to have less homework assigned to students
- Reason aimed at teachers: If we're not overloaded with assignments, we'll do each task more thoroughly.
- Reason aimed at students: We'll have fewer back-breaking books to carry home each day and more time for fun.
