 Project SUCCESS/Soar to Success: Summary

The basis for Soar to Success was an extensive two-year national research study, Project SUCCESS, which was carried out in thirteen classroom locations throughout the United States. These students made significant literacy gains in only 76 days of instruction. The results of this study are reported in A Study of the Effectiveness of an Intervention Program Designed to Accelerate Reading for Struggling Readers in the Upper Grades. An executive summary of this report appears in all Soar to Success Teacher Manuals. The complete report is available from Houghton Mifflin Company.

Several of the schools that use the Project SUCCESS materials are continuing to monitor the literacy gains made by the students who participate in the program. Some of these schools have generously shared the following testing information for the 1997 - 1998 school year. Additional schools have shared information on Soar to Success results from the 1998 - 1999 and the 1999 - 2000 school year.
