Demographics of sample population:
The school is located in the urban fringe of a large city. The student enrollment of 530 students is 39% Hispanic and 38% Caucasian. Of the 29 students in the study, four were identified as special education and two students were receiving English as a Second Language support.

Purpose of study:
The purpose of this study was to measure the increased performance of students participating in the Soar to Success program.

Methodology:
The 29 students in grades 3-5 who were chosen for this program were reading from 2-4 years below grade level. Four special education students and two ESL students were part of this study. The classroom teachers met with groups of 6-7 students for daily 40 minute lessons. The instruction continued for 25 weeks. The Qualitative Reading Inventory was used as the pre and posttest.
