Demographics of sample population:
Howard Elementary is located in a mid-sized city and has an approximate enrollment of 400 students. The total population is comprised of approximately 98% African American students and 2% Caucasian students.

Purpose of study:
Measure progress over time of Soar to Success students

Methodology:
Pullout/in-class model

Measures/indicators used to assess effectiveness:
Scholastic Sprint Placement Test
Slosson Oral Reading Test

Findings: Out of 29 students tested, 22 students showed gains of at least one grade level and 14 students are reading at grade level or above. The smallest gain was 1.8 to 2.7 in third grade and the highest gain was 3.0 to 6.9 in fifth grade; however, at the time of testing, students still had 2 months of Soar instruction remaining.
