Demographics of sample population:
Lexington School District is comprised of 17 schools and has a total enrollment of approximately 14,500. The entire district population includes approximately 80% Caucasian students, 16% African American students, 2% Asian students, and 1% Hispanic students.

Purpose of study:
Measure progress over time of Soar To Success students in grades 3-5

Methodology:
14 students meet for an 85-minute class period once a day. Seven students work in a Soar reading group for the first half of the period while the other 7 students participate in a writing tutorial - at the mid-point of the time block the two groups switch.

Measures/indicators used to assess effectiveness:
Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test.
