Weather Clock

Science

Children will make a circular weather indicator to record the day's weather.

What You Need

  • Construction paper or dark cardboard
  • White paper plates or cardboard circles
  • Scissors
  • Paper fasteners
  • Markers or crayons

What to Do

  1. Brainstorm with children symbols for what the weather conditions might be on a given day. For example: clouds, sun, rain/snow, windy, hot, cold.

  2. Have children draw around the outside of the cardboard circles six symbols for the weather.

  3. Have children cut out two or three arrows from construction paper or cardboard.

  4. Help children attach the arrows with brass paper fasteners to the center of the circle.

  5. Show children how to indicate the weather of the day by pointing the arrows to the correct symbols.

  6. Invite children to "set their clocks" to the appropriate weather at the start of each day.
